T01 – Successful Project Management Part 1: Avoid Communication Failure

[AR, CO, EN, ID, PM]

[ 3.0 AAA Structured LHs; BOMI 3.0 CPDs; 0.3 IDCEC CEUs ]

The top three project success criteria are user/client involvement, executive management support, and a clear statement of requirements. Malfunction in these areas lead to the most commonly cited reason for poor project performance: communication failure. Your achievement as a Project Manager is directly tied to your ability to communicate effectively and influence the stakeholders. This session will increase awareness of your own personal communication style, how you impact others, communication styles, filters, generational diversity in the workplace, communications protocols, channels, and processes.

T02 – Implementing Energy Standard NECB 2011 with the ABC 2014: Design and Building Permit Application Requirements

[CO, EN, ID, SB]

[ AAA 2.0 Structured LHs; BOMI 2.0 CPDs; 0.2 IDCEC HSW-Building Code CEUs ]

As of November 1, 2015 construction projects regulated in accordance with the Alberta Building Code (ABC) must be designed in compliance with the National Energy Code of Canada for Buildings (NECB) 2011 edition. Provincially trained Safety Codes Officers will be certified to handle Energy Codes as part of the permitting, inspection and approvals process. All relevant professionals will be required to comply with the applicable provisions of the adopted NECB, including architects, interior designers, engineers, and surveyors.

Three compliance paths are available (prescriptive, trade-off and performance) requiring either a checklist or report submitted with construction drawings as part of the building permit application. The authority having jurisdiction (AHJ) will require confirmation that your building design complies prior to issuing a building permit. Don’t risk the possibility of a rejection of your building permit resulting in a delay in your project.

Learn how the new energy code may affect the design and construction of your projects, in particular:

  • NECB 2011 code requirements
  • How to incorporate provisions of NECB 2011 in electrical design
  • Submission requirements for building permit
  • Project types applicable to NECB 2011
  • Where NECB 2011 is not applicable
  • Alternative options to NECB 2011
  • Lessons learned from the implementation of NECB 2011 in BC

This seminar is suitable for all stakeholders involved with the design, construction and inspection of projects regulated by ABC, including Building Owners, Developers, Project Managers, Architects, Interior Designers, Code Consultants, Electrical Engineers, Electrical Contractors and Inspection Authorities administering enforcement of NECB 2011.
